Landscape Architecture / Historic Estate Garden

A landscape concept for the grounds of a historic residence in the Bordeaux region, developed as a dialogue between existing architecture, productive garden traditions and a more resilient approach to water and planting.

The design takes the estate’s existing stone tower, boundary walls, greenhouse and mature trees as the structural framework of the garden. Within this setting, a formal kitchen garden of raised beds and gravel paths recalls the spatial order of the traditional French potager, while espalier fruit trees extend along the historic masonry walls.

Planting is shaped by the region’s seasonal drought, combining herbs, lavender and other drought-tolerant species with permeable gravel surfaces and carefully concentrated water use. The greenhouse anchors a quieter garden zone, while natural stone, productive planting and existing architecture create a landscape that feels both cultivated and deeply connected to the history of the site.

The concept was approved by the owner, with initial implementation phases subsequently agreed and begun.
